Mang Inasal

Pre-Mang Inasal At age 10, Sia already helps out in the family business, stacking merchandise, taking inventories or manning the counter after school. It was with the family business that Sia developed the sixth sense for business. By age 20, he was already running multiple businesses which include a photo developing store (Injap Color Express), a 58-room three star hotel (Four Season Hotel), and a laundry shop (Mister Labada). Founding of Mang Inasal The start When a 250-meter slot in Robinson’s mall in Iloilo, was presented to Sia, he immediately reserved it despite not knowing what to put up yet. With P2. 4 million of borrowed money, Sia decided on inasal as the most viable dish after analyzing the different culinary specialty of the 16 regions. It was a unique entry to the saturated chicken business. Hence, in December 12, 2003, he opened the first store of Mang Inasal. Sia positioned Mang Inasal as an alternative quick service restaurant that serves charcoal-grilled chicke n, wrapped its rice in banana leaf and uses bamboo sticks for its skewers. He also offered unlimited rice, becoming the first quick-service restaurant to do so.At the beginning, Sia had to work long hours and helped in the cleaning of the store. After which, he would prepare and marinate the chicken for the next day. Sia also had no system for running the operation and no commissary to supply the raw materials. Not long, Sia’s Mang Inasal became a critical success in Visayas. Within a year, Sia opened another branch in Roxas City. In the second year of operations, he opened six more and in the third year, another 20. Success and expansion Sia had a lot of franchise inquiries but he held off until 2005.He joined the Philippine Franchise Association. Not long after, he brought the Mang Inasal to [[Luzon]. He also developed several monitoring procedures to safeguard quality and cleanliness. He also established a research and development team for product development. He also impl emented advanced online supply ordering system for his branches. To date, there are 306 branches nationwide. Aside from Mang Inasal, Sia also revived the Deco in 2007 after he partnered with the owner’s children.Deco is considered the original batchoy, started by a young butcher name Deco Guillergan Sr. in 1938. Acquisition of Jollibee Sia had plans of going public in 2010 but in October, publicly-listed company Jollibee Food Corporation announced it has acquired 70% of Mang Inasal Philippines, Inc. for P3 billion. Of which, Jollibee paid P200 million to the parent firm Injap Investments, Inc. , which still held the remaining 30%. In December, Jollibee paid the 90% balance while the remaining 10% will be paid over three years.Mang Inasal’s total branch of 303 will contribute 5% to Jollibee’s worldwide system sales, five percent to its revenue and seven percent to its operating income. Sia and Ferdinand Sia will sit as part of the Board of Directors of Jollibee. Awards Sia was the Small Business Entrepreneur winner handed out by Ernst and Young in 2010. He also received the Urban Leadership Award from the Canadian Urban Institute because of his outstanding contributions to the enhancement of the public realm and the quality of life in the Metro Iloilo-Guimaras area.

The Position of the Modern Woman Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

The Position of the Modern Woman - Essay Example However, the various feminist theories differ, to a large extent, on the sources and types of inequality suffered by women, how to tackle these inequalities and achieve equality or the extent to which gender and sexual identities should be questioned. Obviously, as with every ideology, political movement or philosophy, no single definition or idea would adequately reflect what feminism stands for (Tong, 1989). Â  Nonetheless, despite the various differences within the rank of the feminists’ movements, over the last couple of decades, their analysis and ideas have greatly contributed to society and social theory and thus have greatly improved the lives of women. Several aspects of private life associated with male/female social relationships have experienced changes and many parts of social life have been transformed as a result of the work of feminism. Although some people argue that there is still a long way to go before equality is attained between men and women, everyone agrees to the fact that major changes have been experienced towards such equality in the society (Burt and Dorney, 1993). Â  Somehow, men and women through their social actions and interactions have played a role in the changes experienced in the society, feminist theorist and writers have played the most striking roles in the changes in views and attitudes and other societal changes. Feminist theories have always been very useful in that, they tend to address the practical issues faced by women in their daily living and interaction with the society (Sydie, 1987).

Evaluating Contracts Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Evaluating Contracts - Assignment Example Apart from the costs of the materials, the business will then have its markup, and the arrangement accommodates changes in the prices of materials (Gido & Clements, 2014, p. 87). The advantages of entering into a fixed-price contract for the business include that it will allow the business to secure and plan the execution of the contract fully, right from the beginning of the contract. The case for a cost-reimbursement contractual agreement is different, because the agreement limits the profits that the business could make from the execution, irrespective of the duration taken and the efficiency of executing the work. Secondly, this type of contracting will simplify the process of sales forecasting, because the profits to be drawn from the contract can be determined before starting the project, and that allows for more sales prospecting. The case is different in the case of entering into a cost-reimbursement contract, because disputes over the costs of materials and labor can affect the process of reimbursement and the profitability of the business – as a result (Gido & Clements, 2014, p. 87). The major risk arising from entering into this type of con tract is that, it is likely that the business will agree on a price which is too low, to the extent that it may not meet the costs of labor and materials adequately. Further, there is the risk that the increment of the prices (costs) of the materials needed for the execution of the contract may limit the business’ ability to make a profit from the contract, especially in the event that prices increase. The case is different in the case the business enters into a cost-reimbursement contractual arrangement, because it will allow the business the advantage of determining the profits to be made before starting the contract. This advantage is highly significant, where there is a risk of change (increment) in the costs of labor and materials. Arising

Verbal Communication (Communication) Research Paper

Verbal Communication (Communication) - Research Paper Example My friend got agitated by the description of my present status. He thought it was a deliberate attempt from my part to become a superior in front of him. Immediately, he started to tell more about his job at Dubai. He told me that he was getting around $ 20000 as salary alone per month in Dubai along with company vehicle of an E class Benz and a Porsche Villa near to a beach in Dubai. Even though he was an aluminium fabricator, he told me that he is working as an Estimation manager and only because of his efforts his company got projects worth millions of dollars on every week. I have double checked the information provided by him about his job, with another friend who is working at present in Dubai. He told me that the other fellow is still an aluminium fabricator working for $ 1000 per month as salary. In my opinion, my friend thought that I was deliberately trying to ridicule him by giving false data about my present status. Moreover the salary which I am getting at present in my home country was unimaginable and intolerable for him. The misinterpretation was not caused by any language barrier or another language issue. This misunderstanding has occurred merely out of the misinterpretation of my intentions by my

Standardized Testing Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Standardized Testing - Research Paper Example Furthermore, the grading system might be a disadvantage to most of the students thus making them fail. Different students can be motivated differently when they are doing these tests. Others can get demoralized during the test process while others can be motivated by how the questions set and the way they are answering them. However, there many factors than can affect how the students will perform in these tests. SAT and ACT testing systems have different ways in which they test their students. Although these two tests fulfill the same role i.e. college acceptance, each one has different testing skills. SAT test on the critical thinking and the solving ability of the students while the ACT tests on the content of knowledge that a student has on a particular topic. It tests major things on what you been taught in class. Some students may find this testing very difficult because of the low skills that they have on the topics tested. This will make most of them fail the test, not becaus e they are poor in learning but due to the inadequate skills in answering the questions. Some students do not care what grades they are going to be in the tests. They make sure that they do the tests. These students will react negatively to test because it is not an issue to them. Some students have learning disabilities and they should be treated differently from others. They should be given extra time during the test and even different examination rooms. These students are believed to do better in ACT test because these tests are straightforward and more knowledge-based (Kaplan, 9). The grading system of SAT and ACT have different portions. These portions are marked differently. The writing portion is the part where a person marks it. This is because this portion has different ways in which the students can give answers. Students will express their knowledge here depending on how they understood some topics. The second portion has multiple choices. This is where a student chooses the correct answer from five choices. One choice is always correct. This portion can be mark by a machine. Marks awarded in this portion vary from the type of tests. For instance, in SAT test, if a student fails one question from the multiple choices, a fourth of the marks will be deducted from the total marks in the multiple-choice questions. This is completely different from ACT test because even if a student fails a question, there will be no deduction made from the other scored questions. The third portion of the test includes materials that are not covered in school. The teacher will not check them because the student will be taking the materials to the college (Allyn & Bacon, 23). The students’ knowledge on these tests can also depend on the motivation that they have on their learning. Students should have good motivation during learning to ensure that they get relevant knowledge that will be applied during the tests. Each student must have a desire on what is expected from the studies they are taking. They should know that these studies have meaning in their lives and should take them seriously. Another factor that will help students get the required knowledge is by making sure that they attend SAT classes. These classes are very importance because most of the topics that are tested in exams are discussed during these classes (Allyn & Bacon, 25). On the other hand,

Longing for Freedom Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Longing for Freedom - Coursework Example Once in the small and the forgotten places he finds on the map (the book is named for the blue highways that are the small state and county roads on his map) it may be an out of the way diner or caf, a little college community, even a monastery, he retells histories and tales that make these places significant in their own way. He found out much that was new and strange to him: one thing that struck him and made him think was repeatedly finding one shoe as he made his way across the country. Where was the other shoe Why would someone throw one shoe out the car window What good was the other one, alone He finally concluded, without much conviction, that all those solitary shoes were the result of people dangling their feet out the window, with one shoe accidentally flying off and out onto the roadside. "On the old highway maps of America, the main routes were red and the back roads blue. Now even the colors are changing. But in those brevities just before dawn and a little after dusk - times neither day nor night - the old roads return to the sky some of its color. Then, in truth, they carry a mysterious cast of blue, and it's that time when the pull of the blue highways is strongest ..." Blue Highways is more than just an autobiographical road novel - it contains innumerable aspects of the 'American road culture', ranging from ethnical problems and the undeniable importance of diners to the true significance of road literature. In other words, W. Least Heat Moon somehow assists in determining the myth of the road and he invites the reader to join him on a more abstract kind of road, namely that from the past to the present. Having Native American ancestors himself, Least Heat Moon also lays enormous emphasis on the aspect of race and ethnicity on the road. Why do people leave home to go on such an extended road trip What is the myth of the road that fascinates so many And above all, what do such road protagonists expect to find or discover on the road For William Least heat Moon the journey is on the one hand a sort of escape from home and on the other hand it obviously represents an attempt to forget or even heal. "Etymology: 'curious', related to 'cure', once meant 'carefully observant'. Maybe a tonic of curiosity would counter my numbing sense that life inevitably creeps toward the absurd. 'Absurd', by the way, derives from a Latin word meaning 'deaf, dulled'. Maybe the road could provide a therapy through observation of the ordinary and obvious, a means whereby the outer eye opens an inner one." (Blue Highways, p.17) As the name 'Least Heat Moon' already indicates, his ancestors were Native Americans and thus his journey is as well an occasion to search for his origins, to somehow trace his ancestral roots. Most road protagonists set out alone with the simple reason to find their true self. For William Least Heat Moon this search for himself requires the loneliness of the back roads and this purity of experience. However, although the loneliness of the back roads is quite an important aspect, Least Heat Moon knows that it is exactly his traveling alone that also brings him into contact with people that makes him

Tran Poem essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Tran Poem - Essay Example The research took me to places I haven’t even imagined, and opened a whole new sphere of unexplored miseries of life I wasn’t even aware of. Writing this poem proved to be an enlightening and a life changing experience for me, and as I progressed through the development of the poem new doors kept opening for me giving a new perspective to my life each time I entered another phase of the poem. The poem is thus more than just expressive art for me, rather it`s a smaller part of a bigger evolution that I had gone through ever since. â€Å"Now when I look back†, was the perfect beginning for my poem as I`ve associated a versatile range of feelings and emotions with the bitter experiences, which compel me on looking back towards the hardest time of my life. There are two kinds of encounters that you can never get off your mind, the one which rejoices you to the fullest to the extent that it replenishes your energies and the second which are so hard to take that every second seem to pass like a lifetime. From the stare in people`s eyes to the glare in the children`s sight, everything seemed to rip off a part of my heart. I was the center of attention for every passerby, not in a good way though. There were mixed kinds of expressions that people were exhibiting towards me, which were very hard to explain. I had never in my life experiences the nature of expressive reactions that people were giving which made it even harder to interpret the messages. As I set my steps in the street to start off my day, I was mindful of the fact that I was indeed taking a very bold step which is completely unacceptable to the society. I thought I was ready, though I later realized I wasn’t. When everyone was staring at me, people turning back to have a second look at me and cars literally stopping by with the intent of publically abusing me, I tried to adjust to the changes by explaining myself that this process is necessary to understand the essence of the i ssue. Taking the reaction positively, I tried to continue the activity shifting the focus on my aim for the research instead of the harsh comments being thrown at me. All my efforts for trying to get comfortable were literally going to waste, as every moment was becoming even more difficult for me. While I was caught up in the adjustment phase, a very strange yet disturbing incident occurred to me. A boy almost my age came up to me and told me how I`m a disgrace to the society and how I should rather kill myself for the betterment of the society. I couldn’t take his comments anymore thus I retaliated though it wasn’t something that I was supposed to do during the course of the activity. I cross questioned the boy asking him how my identity was a disgrace to anyone, and how my individuality can be affecting anyone else. His answer was as disturbing as the harshest cut in my heart that only the sharpest knife could leave. He quoted some verse from a theological narration and told me how I had committed a sin in my former life, due to which God had punished me for my sin and I will skink the entire society with the disgust that I carry. I said nothing but walked away silently, and it was the first time in my life that I couldn’t stop my tears. The strength in me was fading away. This experience took my thoughts to many other perspectives of life. I`ve always understood the significance that one`s identity carries but I`ve never thought about those who are

Women getting the Death pentaly Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Women getting the Death pentaly - Essay Example What is death penalty? According the American Heritage Dictionary of English Language (2000), death penalty refers to, â€Å"a sentence of punishment by execution.† In legal terms, death penalty is synonymous to capital punishment. Capital punishment means it is the most serious punishment that one can be accorded. Death penalty is often imposed on offenders of murder and mutiny whose cases have been proven beyond reasonable doubts. The execution of offenders on death row may be done through, lethal injection, electorocution, shooting and hanging among other methods. The execution methods vary from one country to the other. In America, lethal injection and electrocution methods are commonly used. Having explicated death penalty, it is safe to delve into discussing whether women should be accorded the same or not. Statistics indicate that there has been gender biasness in imposing death penalties on capital offenders with women being the beneficiaries of the partiality. Accord ing to Death Penalty Information Centre (2012), â€Å"death sentencing rate and death row population has remained small for women as compared to men; from 1973 to 2011, 174 death penalties have been imposed upon female offenders, constituting 2% of all death sentences in America.† Out of the 174 only 12 of them have been actually executed between, 1973-2011; the remaining 162 are still on a death row. Statistics unveils gender disparity in imposing death penalties. Barron (2006) admits that there is favoritism in death sentencing between men and women; he observes that demographics on men versus women death row prisoners reveal that men suffer more death penalties than women. Is this really fair? Why the favoritism? The society has witnessed a long struggle to liberate women from derogatory and oppressive chains of male chauvinism. Today, there are high degrees of women and girl child empowerment, and the equality is steadily being realized, safe for a few rigid societies. Me n and women

Article summary Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words - 1

Summary - Article Example Humor and laughter are closely related however these are not synonymous. One can laugh without a humorous stimulus and similarly one can experience humor without laughter. Historically humor history is perceived to be 35000 years old. Almost every culture spends appreciable time communicating in a humorous context. No single humor theory is universally accepted however, three essential themes, are repeatedly observed in the majority of humor theories: 1) humor reflects a set of incongruous conceptualizations, 2) humor involves repressed sexual or aggressive feelings, and 3) humor elevates social status by demonstrating superiority or saving face. It has been discussed that animals also show response to humorous behavior. With respect to genetics, it has been observed that women laugh 126% more than men during conversations with each other. Brain damage, particularly in the frontal lobes, causes deficits of humor appreciation. The elucidation of the neurobiology of humor has benefited from two approaches: 1) observing the effects of various brain lesions on humor perception and 2) functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies, which monitor brain activity in normal subjects while perceiving humor. Despite language and cultural barriers, humor in traditional societies is generally comprehensible to visiting anthropologists. Two humor phenomena especially standout in the anthropological literature: joking relationships and clowns. There is no way to know with certainty when humor evolved relative to language although it would appear that at least sophisticated humor must have succeeded language. The credible range for the origins of language lands between a few hundred thousand years to about 2-4 million years ago. There is increasing evidence that a new level of symbolic thought was achieved around 50,000 years ago. A figurine integrating the head of a lion with the legs of a person dated around 32,000 years old is among the earliest evidence for symbolic art. Humor can perhaps be framed as an incongruent social concept â€Å"violating† the essence of a congruent social concept. Dunbar (1993) has put forward a theory that, in primates, neocortical size is proportional to group size and that language ultimately replaced grooming as the primary social bond .Humor is a fascinating cognitive function. The relative ease in how we use it belies its considerable complexity. To conclude humor appears to be a function of Homo sapiens’ augmented social abilities and as an extension of language, could perhaps be the most complex cognitive function in the animal kingdom. The origins of language, spirituality, hominid group size and animal teasing may have particular relevance to humor. A number of humankind’s higher cognitive functions could well be inextricably rooted in humor’s evolutionary history, thus making this subject worthy of further exploration. The Great Gatsby Essay Example for Free

The Great Gatsby Essay Throughout the novel The Great Gatsby there are several symbolic meanings of colours that Fitzgerald has incorporated. Specific colours in the novel contrast several different meanings and representations. Yellow is one colour in the book that Fitzgerald has incorporated for many reasons. The main representation of the colour yellow in the book is death. Death contrasted in yellow has been a main factor during the novel as in the end, basically the only yellow thing that has not been a part of death was Daisy. For example, George Wilson’s home in the valley of ashes is made of yellow brick and is the place where George and Myrtle live. Their house represents death in multiple ways as it was right outside of their house where tom and Daisy hit Myrtle and killed her. It was also the place where tom had told George that it was Gatsby’s car that had struck Myrtle, which resulted in him shooting Gatsby. Also, Gatsby’s yellow car is symbolic of death as it hits Myrtle when she runs out into the road. Lastly, nearing the end of the novel when Gatsby is in his pool, and quote the chauffeur asked him if he needed help, but he shook his head and in a moment disappeared among the yellowing trees. The yellowing trees represent death because the colour was a sign of alert which Gatsby did not realise. Also, because just as the Chauffeur disappeared â€Å"among the yellowing trees†, so did Gatsby’s life when shortly after getting in the pool, he was shot by George and killed. Yellow today represents caution just like a street light which turns yellow, which indicates caution to slow down. In the novel Fitzgerald is indicating that money and wealth cannot solve your problems. Throughout the novel Tom, Daisy and Gatsby get themselves into a lot of issues and think that their money can resolve their problems as evident from the previous examples, it cannot. Another symbolic colour that Fitzgerald has incorporated is the colour gold. Gold represents wealth. Throughout the novel wealth has been represented in several different ways. As Gatsby lives in west egg, he represents new wealth, and as tom and daisy live in east egg, they represent old wealth. Gatsby wants to be rich with old wealth so he can win the affection of his true love, so he buys a yellow car. But daisy did not want to give up the life and money that tom had, Gatsby did not have old wealth. Jordan and Daisy are represented by gold throughout the novel as quote Jordan’s slender golden arm resting in mine and high in the white palace the king`s daughter, the golden girl. The golden girl is of course Daisy. New money, which Gatsby has, represents more of the colour yellow which is why Daisy will not get back together with him. Gatsby tries to show daisy that he represents wealth several times during the novel by his appearance when quote Gatsby in a white flannel suit, silver shirt, and gold-colored tie hurried in. Also, Gatsby`s parties where quote turkeys bewitched to a dark gold. Gatsbys effort to impress daisy throughout the novel represents his love for her but daisy only cares about money and realised that tom is more wealthy. Throughout the novel, there have been many symbolic representations of the colour blue as well. The colour blue represents loyalty, patience, love, and the sky. For example, as blue represents loyalty, ironically tom is the opposite if loyal. For example, tom takes his blue car to the Valley of ashes to go have affairs with myrtle, as well he is a racist. Also, although blue can represent love, it can also represent sadness and unhappiness as seen through the relationship of tom and Daisy. As Daisy is â€Å"the Golden Girl† she sets her relationship with tom based on money instead of love, which proves to us that their relationship is undoubtedly blue. I also believe that blue is symbolic of patience and dreams because the blue lake is the separation between Gatsby’s house and Daisy’s house and one day he dreams of reuniting with her. As well Gatsby’s blue garden represents patience because every Saturday when Gatsby holds his elegant parties, he hopes that one day daisy will come to one, and just like nick and Jordan first met Gatsby in his backyard which is located by the blue garden, he hopes that he will find Daisy there as well. Finally, the eyes of Doctor T. J. Eckleburg. Eckleburg’s eyes represent the sky, as they are the colour of the sky, as well the connection between the eyes and god only exists only in George Wilson’s mind. I feel that blue today represents unending possibilities, which is what Fitzgerald had incorporated throughout this novel as the reader was never sure of what was going to happen between tom and daisy, Gatsby and daisy, as there could have been the possibility that Gatsby and daisy would get married.

Benefits of IFRS Essay Example for Free

Benefits of IFRS Essay IFRS will enable US bank to compete globally; more than one hundred countries in the world are already using IFRS. This is because more than sixty percent of investors in US operate foreign stocks with foreign banks and other companies which use IFRS. Therefore, if US bank fail to switch to IFRS, transparency and comparability will reduce for US issuers and investors (Silver, 2009). Furthermore, US exchanges such as the NYSE have been gradually losing their position as the place where worldwide companies list their shares. This being the case, the US bank has been affected since foreign investors now prefer investing their wealth in other banks where the accounting standards are not as strict is in the US. To avoid losing investment opportunities and lagging behind the current developments in the field of accounting, US bank does have to switch to IFRS. Comparing the annual report of Rabobank with that of Wells Fargo bank shows how IFRS reduces financial reporting into smaller and less complicated documents. The 2009 annual report of Rabobank were complied in a 61 (Rabobank, 2010) pages document while that of Wells Fargo were documented in 196 pages (Wells Fargo, 2010). This implies that IFRS summarizes financial reporting more than thrice of the GAAP accounting standards. It is also evident from the annual reports of the two banks that IFRS provides more comprehensive historical information regarding the performance of the bank over the past five years(the case of Rabobank) while GAAP only gives the present and previous year’s figures. This makes IFRS more effective since the stakeholders, management and investors can be able to track the financial position of the bank at a glance so that which is very important for future palming (IASCF, 2009). Adopting IFRS will make reporting for most banks in US easier since it will reduce the complexities of comparing financial statements from different subsidiaries across the globe. It will also facilitate internal consistency and streamline all operations, auditing, reporting standards, training and company standards (Articles Base, 2009). For instance, Rabobank applies IFRS on its financial reporting. This has greatly improved the efficiency of the bank since it operates in more than forty countries around the world. Following the bank’s annual reports since 2004, the total net profit calculated using IFRS was higher by 15 million Euros as compared to the same when calculated with GAAP (Rabobank Nederland, 2005). This difference was majorly due to the benefits of reclassifications of interest income under IFRS. This is because under the IFRS accounting standards, several interests are no longer consolidated and this results to lesser third-party interests (Rabobank Nederland, 2005) Disincentives of adopting IFRS IFRS accounting standards are less detailed as compared to GAAP; GAAP is more complex and based on rules while IFRS is based on principles. Adoption of IFRS will reduce the quality of financial reporting because most of the rules applied for GAAP have been let-out in IFRS—while IFRS principles fit in a single two-inch thick book, GAAP standards fit in a nine-inch thick book—this indicates that the details and reporting requirements of IFRS are fewer and compressed (IASCF, 2009). Adoption of IFRS implies that banks will incur additional costs: training staff on IFRS standards and also initial conversion costs which will be paid to advisors and auditors (Articles Base, 2009). Considering the format of the annual reports of the two banks, it is evident that IFRS eliminates many items from the annual report and presents only the consolidated financial position of the bank. Information eliminated from Rabobank’s 2009 financial reports include the vision, mission and goals of the organization, financial reviews, the report from independent registered public accounting firm and reports on stock performances; however this information is provided in Wells Fargo 2009 annual report.

There is a Mookies sister Jade, who is always trying to get her brother Mookie to face up to his responsibilities, and Tina, Mookies girlfriend and mother of his infant son. There is a place in the Sals Pizza Shop called Wall of Fame; Lots of pictures of different people are placed there, where no African American peoples are included. That make angered for African American people although Sal himself think about his shop as the center of the neighbourhood and feels pleasure for having food place for the African-American neighbourhood. In that area it is very hard to find the business owned by African-American, only Sal and the Korean Grocery shop owner, who take the big money from the community. According to the main plot of the story, There is a boy whose name is Buggin Out, who always wants Sal to put up some pictures of black people at the side of the Sals pizzerias Wall of Fame, in the end of the movie that boy becomes the cause for the movies climax with violence blasts in and around the Sals Famous Pizzeria over the same issue of Wall of Fame. At the night time, A big group of African-American People with Radio Raheem is enter into the pizzeria, while pizzeria was already closed but Sal opens to them because he wants for more business. Radio Raheem always make louder sound on his sound system, Here in pizzeria, he makes its sound louder as well. They are doing force to put the picture of black people in wall of fame, but Sals refusing to put the picture of black. Sal telling to make the sound lower inside the pizzeria but Radio Raheem is not doing like that. All the black people are being aggressive. In the same situation, Sal became anger with his Music System and he broke that sound system of Radio Raheem then after Radio Raheem and other black people been aggressive. They did attack to the Sal, ÂÂ Police came and they arrest that black people who are doing attack and crucially hitting them as a result Radio Raheem killed. Big crowed of black people are giving pressure and telling Mokie to Stay Black. Then Mookie throws a trash on the Sals Famous Pizzeria towards the front glass and break all then that crowd of the black people make damage everything in Sals Pizzeria and its burned down. The movie was shotted on one of the hottest and longest day of the summer, which is start with the energetic and dazzling dance on the song of Fight the Power on the very hot bright and colourful background. But in the later this song Fight the Power only played when the Radio Raheem appears. From the viewers eye Do the Right Thing raises some questions like what is the appropriate way for society to deal the ethnic discrimination in that area (America) which is shown in the movie? Is that the right thing which has been done by Mookie in the film? Should it be done by the dialogue, understanding and positive way without any violence or only violence is only the right thing. There are the people with only one aspect. In the movie the African American People think they can do everything because they are more in numbers. I think its the quite poor things in the movie. In the summary, this movie comes closer to reflecting the current state of racial relations in America than any other movie of that time. There is no doubt about the originality and power of the movie. This movie must be watched by all. I think, it is still appropriate in the world today.

Mexico Business :: essays research papers

For simplicity, we have broken down the country of Mexico into five major regions: Northwest (Sonora, Chihuahua, Durango, Baja California Sur), Northeast (Coahuila, Zacatecas, Nuevo Leon, San Luis Potosi, Tamaulipas), West Coast (Sinaloa, Jalisco, Nayarit, Guerrerro, Oaxaca, Colima, Michoacan), Central (Morelos, Aguascalientes, Michoacan, Guanajuata, Hidalgo, Estado de Mexico, Puebla, Queretaro, Tlaxcala, The Federal District), and South (Chiapas, Vera Cruz, Tabasco, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Yucatan). Each region is diverse in industry; some are more heavily involved in agriculture while others are most involved in high-tech manufacturing. Generally speaking the most important economic activities of all the regions include tourism, fishing, mining, agriculture/livestock, petroleum distilleries, and low/high-tech manufacturing (many maquiladoras exist along the California border). Central Mexico is the most industrialized region and accounts for almost 60% of the country ¡Ã‚ ¦s GNP. It is in this region that large multi-nationals such as Ford Motor Company, Nissan, and Texas Instruments, have chosen to establish major production plants. The implication of a country diverse in industry and culture is that there is a need for a workforce as diverse and skilled as each region ¡Ã‚ ¦s relative industries. This is one of the most challenging issues that confronts the Mexican HR manager today, especially in the turbulence of a new political party and international deregulation. As the rampant modernization continues to spread and business becomes more privatized through new political agendas, major industries such as telecommunications, energy, and manufacturing, will become a major focus of Mexican business. Although still resembling an oligopoly ruled by major players such as Telemex and Iusacell, the market scope of the Mexican telecommunications industry is expanding rapidly with the advent of cellular, satellite, and broadband, technologies. This emerging technology is the portal through which competition is entering. Globalstar de Mexico (a joint venture between Prinicipia of Mexico, S. de R.L., Loral Space & Communications, and Vodafone Airtouch) has already launched an affordable global satellite telephone service that can provide fixed service to remote locations without a fiber or cable network (1). In cellular, American Tower has entered into an agreement with Nuevo Grupo Lusacell to build 200 build-to-suit towers, and assume 400 existing towers (2). In the related networking sector, Nortel has been awarded a contract from Telefonica Data to implement a nationwide ATM network in Mexico that will offer customers basic connectivity, internet access, and hosting services (3). The major players are responding aggressively and taking actions such as those of Carlos Slim Helu (chairman of Telmex) who announced the planned investment of $4.

Functional Genomic Analysis of C. elegans Using RNA Interference Essay

Introduction Before we talk about this important experiment, do you know what a nematode is? Specifically, this experiment used Caenorhabditis elegans, C. elegans for short. C. elegans is a little worm (just like the kind you find in the ground), but has a very special place in modern biochemistry: scientists have mapped its entire genomic sequence. This sequence lets scientists know the character and location of all C. elegans' genes. However, biochemists do not yet fully understand what each gene does and the goal of this experiment is to find the function of each gene within the worm. The connection between a worm's genotype and phenotype is important, because, believe it or not, human beings and worms share many of the same genes. Scientists can use information about nematode genes and their phenotypic expression (the worm's physical traits) to better understand how human genes function in the body. The researchers who performed this study "fed" the worms double stranded RNA that encodes for a particular gene. The cells of the nematode's body recognize the double stranded RNA as foreign genetic material and delete all proteins associated with that RNA. Therefore, the C. elegans will not express the targeted gene, and in its absence, scientists can identify the normal phenotypic expression of that gene. For example, if the inhibited gene was supposed to create raised eyes in the nematode, then the organism would not have raised eyebrows, because it cannot manufacture the proteins that make this trait physically possible. This experiment inhibits the majority of C. elegans' genes in an effort to find what each gene does in the organism. The C. elegans is an ideal species to use in this process because it grows and... ...nucleic acid interference. RNAi uses fragments of double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) which induces the degradation of mRNA. Hopefully, one is beginning to see the similarities of the functions of RNAi and antisense pharmaceuticals. I have mentioned before that antisense drugs work by temporarily inhibiting the mRNA from manufacturing specific proteins. Future RNAi technology could be used to permanently degrade the mRNA. This is not only an exciting possibility; it is a near-future reality. Isis Pharmaceuticals has already five antisense drugs in clinical trails! Who knows when they or another pharmaceutical company will begin to utilize RNAi! References Ahringer, J., Fraser, A.G., Kamath, R.S., Martinez-Campos, M., Sohrmann, Marc., Zipperlen, Peder. Examine the role of Robert Walton and the role of his letters in Frankenstein. What effect does this character and his letters have on our interpretation of Frankenstein? Dulcinia Martinez once stated that â€Å" without music, life would B flat† , well without Robert Walton and his letters, Frankenstein would be flat. it would be just another typical novel rather than a literary classic that is being carefully examined with detail in IB English courses or university. Robert Walton states in at the beginning of the novel â€Å"You will rejoice to hear that no disaster has accompanied the commencement of an enterprise†(Shelly, 15). Taking a closer look at that sentence, YOU is the first word of the start of the whole novel. Here, Mary Shelly is cleverly using the first person pronoun allowing the reader to sense an interaction with Robert Walton who is introducing the novel, but more importantly trying to communicate the morale purpose of the story. The book commences with a collection of 4 letters written by Robert Walton, who is a ship’s captain writing to his sister over his goal of "trac[ing] a secure way over the pathless sea s"(15) for reaching the North Pole from Russia. He soon, throughout his journey, comes across Victor Frankenstein who lies stranded and frozen on ice. If you look on the bottom page 26 (4th letter), the way Victor is described through Walton’s point of view as being â€Å"nearly frozen, and his body dreadfully emaciated by fatigue and suffering† (26), immediately gives the reader the idea of the struggles that Victor has faced. Walton’s narration not only gives Frankenstein an introduction, but it also sets the scene for Victor’s story to begin. Mary Shelly’s decision of giving Walton the role of narrator in allows for... ...tors story to be dangerous. and although Victor Frankenstein succumbed into his own fate†¦ If you look at the top of pg. 31, Victor warns Robert that if â€Å"You seek for knowledge and wisdom, as I once did; and I ardently hope that the gratification of your wishes may not be a serpent to sting you, as mine has been† (31). He warns Robert; as a result, Robert learns his limitations through his story. Making the outcomes turn out differently. While Victor Frankenstein dies due to his over ambition and lack of responsibility, Robert Walton learns from Victors story and takes responsibility for his crew members while safely returning them back home. And so Walton is the only one who survives in the novel, which is important since he is the one who delivers or signifies the moral purpose of victors story, highlighting the dangers of over-ambition through victor’s story.

Marketing Success Through Differentiation Essay

Marketing success through differentiationof anything Any product oi service can he differentiated, even the commodity that seems to differ from competitors’ offerings only in price Theodore Levitt On television we see product differentiation all the time, whether the subject of the commercial is a distinguishable good like an automobile or an indistinguishable good like laundry detergent. These are packaged products. How does the marketer differentiate a so-called commodity like isopropyl alcohol, strip steel, commercial bank services, or even legal counsel? The author describes the attributes of products that give the marketer opportunity to win the customer from the competition and, having won him, to keep him. Finally, the author describes the alert, imaginative state of mind that characterizes good management of product differentiation. â€Å"The way in which the manager operates becomes an extension of product differentiation,† he says. Mr. Levitt is the Edward W. Carter Professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business . School and head of the marketing area of instruction there. His articles in HBR, which number nearly two dozen, include the well-known â€Å"Marketing Myopia† (published in i960 and reprinted as an HBR Classic in September-October 1975) and â€Å"Marketing When Things Change† (November-December 1977). His most recent book is Marketing foi Business Growth (McGraw-Hill, 1974)- There is no such thing as a commodity. All goods and services are diflferentiable. Though the usual presumption is that this is more true of consumer goods than of industrial goods and services, the opposite is the actual case. In the marketplace, differentiation is everywhere. Everybody-producer, fabricator, seller, broker, agent, merchant—tries constantly to distinguish his offering from all others. This is true even of those who produce and deal in primary metals, grains, chemicals, plastics, and money. Fabricators of consumer and industrial goods seek competitive distinction via product features—some visually or measurably identifiable, some cosmetically implied, and some rhetorically claimed by reference to real or suggested hidden attributes that promise results or values different from those of competitors’ products. So too with consumer and industrial services— what I call, to be accurate, â€Å"intangibles. † On the commodities exchanges, for example, dealers in metals, grains, and pork bellies trade in totally undifferentiated generic products. But what they â€Å"sell† is the claimed distinction of their execution—the efficiency of their transactions in thir clients’ behalf, their responsiveness to inquiries, the clarity and speed of their confirmations, and the like. In short, the offered product is differentiated, though the generic product is identical. When the generic product is undifferentiated, the offered product makes the difference in getting customers and the delivered product in keeping them. When the knowledgeable senior partner of a wellknown Chicago brokerage firm appeared at a New York City bank in a tight-fitting, lime green polyester suit and Gucci shoes to solicit business in financial instrument futures, the outcome was predictably 84 Harvard Business Review January-February 1980 poor. The unintended offering implied by his sartorial appearance contradicted the intended offering of his carefully prepared presentation. No wonder that Thomas Watson the elder insisted so uncompromisingly that his salesmen be attired in their famous IBM â€Å"uniforms. † While clothes may not make the man, they may help make the sale. The usual presumption about so-called undifferentiated commodities is that they are exceedingly price sensitive. A fractionally lower price gets the business. That is seldom true except in the imagined world of economics textbooks. In the actual world of markets, nothing is exempt from other considerations, even when price competition rages. During periods of sustained surplus, excess capacity, and unrelieved price war, when the attention of all seems riveted on nothing save price, it is precisely because price is visible and measurable, and potentially devastating in its effects, that price deflects attention from the possibilities of extricating the product from ravaging price competition. These possibilities, even in the short run, are not confined simply to nonprice competition, such as harder personal selling, intensified advertising, or what’s loosely called more or better â€Å"services. To see fully what these possibilities are, it is useful first to examine what exactly a product is. What’s a product? Products are almost always combinations of the tangible and the intangible. An automobile is not simply a machine for movement visibly or measurably differentiated by design, size, color, options, horsepower, or miles per gallon. It is also a complex symbol denoting status, taste, rank, achievement, a spiration, and (these days) being â€Å"smart†Ã¢â‚¬â€that is, buying fuel economy rather than display.

At a Watershed: Advanced nursing practice in Australia

thither is no to a greater extent gratifying labor movement in wellness dish out than c argon for. The take ups hurl al paths been on the front breeze in a struggle for vocalise mankind. Oxford Concise Medical Dictionary identifies take for as a person dexterous and experienced in breast feeding matters and entrusted with the cover of the sick and the carrying out of medical and functional routines (Nurse). This is true, but gives misdescription of this medical handicraft whose scope is much wider and complex.Nursing is the largest wellness commerce in Australia. Since the middle of the 80s last carbon the full number of employed nurses has been comparatively stable, although the occupational composition has removed registered nurses showed growth in comparison with enrolled ones. The recent circulates by Australian demonst rove of wellness and Welfare demonstrate such a tendency (qtd. in Hilless & Healy 64).Despite of this fact we witness Australiawide famine of nurses, with no signs of improvement for many historic period running (Iliffe 4). One can maintain that nurse place in Australia is at a watershed of its development. The outcome would enumerate on what normal affairs ordain be undertaken to overcome the present situation. The extend involves the necessity to impose advanced treat practices, to lift up prestige of the profession, to re judging the scheme of remuneration of labor, to improve knowledge standards as well. To find the ways to success in advanced practice of nursing in Australia we should examine its current position, indicants of quality, semipolitical and industrial contexts, and educational requirements, analyze them and commence the conclusions.Making the considerable disperse of medical master describe workers, nursing in Australia seems to form an two-base hit of health superintend system to a considerable degree. The community holds the Australian nurses in a high regard which reflects in v ery positive public human body of this profession (Iliffe 5). provided the very beneficial anaesthetize of shortages in many areas of nursing, in the main operating theatre, small and intensive boot, accident and emergency, cardiothoracic, neonatal care, midwifery and mental health (qtd. in Hilless & Healy 64) contributed to some loss of health care services provide by advanced nurses due to associated excess work load combined with an ageing nursing work force (Levett 3).For instance, in 1998, there were 9.5 nurses per 1000 creation in Australia, which is around the middle begin for western European countries , but just about more than in Canada and the USA (Hilless and Healy 64).Australian Institute of Health and Welfare in 1999 report that the public hospitals were the largest contributors to nurses occupancy in the land at a rate of 47% era 82% from a total number of nurses were registered ones (qtd. in Hilless & Healy 64). That means that Australia in fact has po sitive result in increasing number of highly satisfactory overlords in nursing. The Federal Government of late pays much attention to this sector of health care. It defined nursing as a national priority area provided scholarships for undergrad and postgraduate nursing education funded the clinical component of nursing courses (Iliffe 4). But governments efforts are not sufficient to cardinally improve the situation. The in vogue(p) report of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare has sh receive, that the amount of nurses workload increase 8.9% between 1995-96 and 1999-00 (qtd. in Iliffe 4). The same report indicates that more than 50% of nurses work parttime to handle their schedule. As a result we see lessen rate of qualified nurses per 100,000 population from 1074 in 1993 to 1018 in 1999 (Iliffe 4).In the hospitals the rate of the patient ofs per nurse reduced from 44.6 patient discharges per FTE nurse in 19951996, to 49.3 in 19981999 (qtd. in Hilless and Healy 64).T he Federal Government also im jutt a goal to extend the append of nurse practitioners in rural and removed regions. Now the situation is so that chief(a) care maestro workers number in urban and rural centers noticeably differs from those in remote territories. The government tries to encourage motility of nurses to such territories.Health services for rural inhabitants surrender become the main concern for it. much funding was announced for medical schools in rural Australia, to pay allied health professionals to work with rural general practitioners, for the disposal of specialist outreach services for rural areas, more scholarships for rural students in Australian medical schools, and programs to attract pharmacists to rural areas (Hilless & Healy 64).The certain reducing of quality of medical services provided by the nurses due to their shortage raised the come to the fore of indicators for advanced practice. Gavin Mooney affirms that one of the central issues in healt h care is that of deciding how to hold dear health (22). Of course the high level of health is a major indicator for successful health care system.Among the key criteria of assessment of health care system its satisfactoriness for public is of great importance. Recent public opinion surveys have shown that there is confusion among the consumers with some aspects of this system, to wit consumer costs and hospital waiting lists.Only 18% of Australians idea the system worked well and needed only when minor changes, compared with 34% feeling that way ten years ago (Hilless and Healy 86).To compass good quality of health care services in Australia the regulatory agencies implement high requirements to competency of nurses. They are necessary to maintain legal, ethical, and professional standards of nursing practice which includes, but is not limited to, confidentiality, professional boundaries, and mandatory reporting to demonstrate responsibility for maintaining current knowledge in the nurses orbital cavity of practice. To participate in self-evaluation and in activities to get up life-long learning to serve as a role model, especially in burden care, forming public opinion and being leaders in all matters that influence health (Dobrossy 2).The licensed practical nurses have to be welleducated to meet the staple fibre needs of the client, to give nursing care under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse or licensed physician to clients in routine nursing situations.Registered nurse should wait on in implementing the nursing bring while recognizing religious and cultural diversity concentrate patients autonomy (Mason and Smith 12) use talk skills effectively assist in health teaching of the client, recognizing individual differences utilize the nursing process, as a framework for critical thinking, in providing safe, goal-directed individualized care direct health teaching to clients. In the issue of advanced nursing practice the qualita tive aspects of the nursing care delivery process are also of great importance. Gaining sense and skill at balancing professional relationships while also knowing the risks of feel for are critical components of providing excellent certificatory care to patients and their families (Bakke and King 182).As a jitney of care, nurse should demonstrate responsibility for own actions by using common techniques of line solving and decision making to plan and organize own assignment actualise the need for change in a structural health care range and demonstrate willingness to participate in effecting change (Grumbach 1518).The observance of the above mentioned requirements forms the advanced nursing practice and is under control of statutory boards throughout the Commonwealth which also are in charge of registering medical professionals (Hilless and Healy 65).The assessment of health sector performance is conducted by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, the depicted objec t Health Performance Committee and the Australian Council on Health Care Standards. similarly many state programs are use to elaboration and implementation of performance and outcomes. But till now the measurement of health care performance continue to be greatly complicated (qtd. in Hilless and Healy 29).
